Cosmetic injections can only be performed by licensed doctors

Injections of botulinum toxin, hyaluronic acid preparations, mesotherapy and biorevitalization procedures can be performed only by doctors licensed for this activity, who have completed medical studies and residency in the relevant field, and only in a health care facility with an appropriate license. General practice nurses cannot provide such services - their expertise cannot be expanded in any way through training organized by filler manufacturers or distributors. Illegal activities are subject to fines.

"Such procedures are rapidly becoming popular, and at the same time, the number of people offering to perform them is also increasing. However, entrusting your beauty and health to the hands of an unqualified worker, there is no way to ensure that unforeseen complications will not occur, and that appropriate assistance will be provided if they do occur. Only professionals who have licenses issued by the Accreditation Service can best ensure that," says Tadas Žentelis, head of the State Accreditation Service for Healthcare Activities under the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry reminds that so-called beauty injections are classified as personal health care activities, strictly defined by legislation. Injections of botulinum toxin, hyaluronic acid preparations, mesotherapy and biorevitalization procedures can only be performed by a dermatovenerologist and plastic reconstructive surgery doctor. An oral, maxillofacial and maxillofacial surgeon can perform injections of botulinum toxin and fillers in the face and neck.

The specified doctors must have licenses - this is stipulated by the Laws of the Health System, and the health care services provided by these doctors can only be provided in health care institutions that have a personal health care license of the institution issued by the Accreditation Service.

It should be emphasized that any specialist, when carrying out activities, cannot exceed the established competence, therefore, it is necessary to responsibly choose specialists who can provide the aforementioned services according to the license.

Please note that performing injections for aesthetic and corrective purposes is not included in the competence of a general practice nurse, let alone a cosmetologist, and this competence cannot be expanded during training organized by manufacturers or distributors of fillers. A General Practitioner can perform injections into the skin, subcutaneous tissue, muscle, vein, central vein, Porto, epidural and brachial plexus catheters within their competence, but this has nothing to do with performing beauty procedures.

Health care or pharmaceutical activities carried out by natural persons, companies, institutions without a license or permit are illegal. The illegal provision of personal health care services, when they are provided by a natural or legal person who does not have the right to do so, is subject to administrative liability, with a fine of 600-1140 euros.
