The beginning of the Klaipėda University Hospital's activities was marked on Thursday, February 9, by a solemn ceremony in the Klaipėda Concert Hall. Three institutions merged at the beginning of this year - Klaipėda University Hospital, Klaipėda Seamen's Hospital and Palanga Rehabilitation Hospital - will grow a new quality medical center based on science and innovation, the core of which is modern and reliable treatment and sensitive care for each patient.
According to Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė, who delivered the congratulatory speech, this transformation became one of the biggest changes in the Lithuanian health care system during the period of Lithuania's restored independence.
"Not only because even three hospitals were connected, but mostly because another, third, center of scientific and medical progress is emerging, providing medical services of the highest - tertiary - level. We have a great opportunity to move from the fierce competition of two centers to the commonality of three centers", the Head of the Government emphasized the importance of changes.
The founders of Klaipėda University Hospital are the Ministry of Health and Klaipėda University. The new Klaipėda University Hospital officially started its operations in 2023. January 2 Its three branches: Klaipėda Hospital, Seamen's Hospital and Palanga Rehabilitation Hospital unite almost 3,000 employees. It is the third hospital in Lithuania in terms of number of employees, after Kaunas clinics and Vilnius Santaras clinics. The new medical facility will have almost 1,800 beds for various purposes. The hospital will provide inpatient, outpatient and rehabilitation services. Branches of the institution will operate in Klaipėda, Palanga and Švėkšna (Šilutė district).
