For residents - free seminars on the use of rational medicines
More and more medicines are used in Lithuania every year. But do we know how to do it responsibly and safely? The Ministry of Health, together with its partners, organizes a series of free seminars, during which the principles of rational use of medicines will be presented to the population. Since October of this year, anyone interested in the rational use of medicines or who wants to learn more about medicines is invited to live and remote meetings with experts in their field. "Currently, the irrational use of medicines is an important problem worldwide. According to the World Health Organization, more than half of all medicines are prescribed, dispensed or sold incorrectly, and half of patients use the medicine incorrectly. Improper use of medicines poses a threat to the health of patients, thus wasting the funds allocated for health protection," says Anželika Oraitė, head of the Pharmaceutical Policy Department of the Ministry of Health. During the seminars held in Klaipėda, Kaunas and Panevėžys in October, lecturer Dr. Giedrė Baršauskienė and Jūratė Pečeliūnienė, associate professor of the Faculty of Medicine of VU, doctor of medical sciences, will talk about the principles of rational use of medicines, health benefits and financial impact. The seminars will discuss the risks and harm caused by the irrational use of drugs. Those interested in specific drugs, such as antibiotics, benzodiazepines, drugs for pain, cardiovascular disease and diabetes, will hear useful information. When you come to the seminars, you will learn about adherence to the treatment regimen, the principles of self-medication and what to do in the event of suspected adverse reactions.
