Heads of the Accreditation Service participated in a conference on health system transparency

November 18 Director of the Accreditation Service Tadas Žentelis and Deputy Director Ramunė Vaitkevičienė participated in the conference "Transparency in the health system and respectful relations with the patient - what else do we have to do?". The event was organized by the Health Affairs Committee of the Seimas together with the Ministry of Health. Several topics were discussed at the conference - how to avoid corruption in the health system and how to improve the relationship between patients and doctors. At the event, reports on the trends of the anti-corruption environment in the health care sector, prevention of corruption in the Danish health care system, respect for the patient's dignity, the relationship between patients and doctors, and ensuring equal opportunities in the provision of health care services were read by specialists in their fields: Rūta Kaziliūnaitė, Deputy Director of the Special Investigations Service, Copenhagen University Hospital Glostrup chief physician of the psychiatric health center Darius Mardosas, vice-dean of the Faculty of Public Health of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, head of the Department of Bioethics doc. Dr. Gvidas Urbonas, head of the Bioethics Center of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, prof. Eimantas Peičius, director of the Institute of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Vilnius University, prof. Dr. Natalja Istomina, Equal Opportunities Controller Birutė Sabatauskaitė. At the conference, representatives of the Lithuanian doctors' managers' union, the Association of Young Doctors, organizations uniting patients, representatives of investigative journalism, specialists of Lithuanian origin working abroad and familiar with the country's health system, experts, event organizers shared their insights. The event is intended to share experiences, to encourage discussion in society about these topics that are uncomfortable for us. In addition, the aim was to find measures to increase transparency in the health system, strengthen prevention and ensure the safety of patients and doctors. In the discussion, great attention was paid to the communication between the doctor and the patient and how to achieve better mutual understanding and respect.
